Over the past 18 years, I have worked with clients who specifically wanted to lose weight. Some people had a little weight to lose; some a lot of weight. They often came to me frustrated that they either hit a plateau in their weight loss journey or felt their goal was impossible to achieve. They tried every diet plan and exercise program. They joined a gym, hired a nutritionist, tried hypnotism. And some bought the latest piece of equipment advertised on late night television. They spent precious time, money, and energy and came up with the end result: none of these weight loss programs were sustainable. Either the packaged food was repulsive, the exercise program painful, or some part of the process highly unachievable long-term.
What I learned in working with clients is that they believe their weight
loss “failure” is a guarantee they will never succeed. They are destined to fail over and over again. If they miss their mark (weight loss in pounds for the week), they give up, retreat, and go back to their old eating and exercise habits. They are unaware that out of failure can come success. They do not see that every symptom has a Divine message; weight gain is a symptom of something else. Weight struggles are “doorway symptoms”–conditions leading us deeper into ourselves, our life, our journey. We are on a journey of self-discovery,self-acceptance, and self-nourishment. If we do not fail, even with our weight, we will never know how to be more aware in life or how to listen to the wisdom of our body.
Missing over and over again is OK; as long as we learn from the missing.
Your body is taking you on a personal journey, giving you time to reflect and discover you. Weight loss is not about losing weight…it’s about gaining Life!
